4/5/13 This week on WHSN

This week during my air shift on 89.3, things went very well! Despite all the work I had done prior to my shift, I thought it was going to be a horrible on air shift since I had been already starting at a computer screen for seven hours by the time I got to the station at 2:30.

I got there in plenty of time, so I didn't have to rush to do my newscast for once. I had time to re-write the stories and learn all the pronunciation if I didn't already know it. I hate feeling rushed to get it done in 5 minutes because reading it on the air is a NIGHTMARE, when that happens. Everything went smooth for the whole 3 hours.

With less errors, I had more confidence to open up the mic more during breaks. Now my only issue is finding content to talk about. I know that a lot of people talk about their lives, but I know that nobody wants to hear what I had for dinner or what time I went to bed. However, I think I've come up with some ways to talk about different things without having to talk about myself, like a lot of other disk jockeys do. That may be comfortable for them, but I'm sort of a private person (unless we're friends) and talking about my life doesn't sound that interesting. I'm not a self-absorbed person so it's harder for me to talk about "ME" to strangers.

After some brainstorming I have some idea's! If you want to hear what they are, you will have to tune in to 89.3 this coming monday from 3-6pm.

The Box Tiger

THE BOX TIGER*SET FIRE*ALBUM* PRE-RELEASE TOUR*

Friday, April 5 is the first day of The Box Tiger's spring tour. Any guesses where the first performance is? If you were thinking Bangor, Maine then you are correct!

The Toronto Band The Box Tiger's first stop is the AS4MS. Incase you're not familiar with what the AS4MS is, then I'll fill you in. The AS4MS, is the nickname that it earned itself because the acoustic showcase to benefit multiple sclerosis society, is kind of a long name. It's put on by 89.3fm WHSN to raise money for people living with MS.

The Box Tiger is releasing their album titled "Set Fire" in june. Their tour is to promote the new album. It's only a month long tour, but it's neat because they have their first performance in Bangor, as I mentioned at the Gracie Theatre and the last show they have in their tour is scheduled for May 6th which is located at Paddy Murphy's in downtown Bangor.

Set Fire, might not be due out until June, but The Box Tiger isn't making fans wait that long to hear their latest single. The track, Knives, was released by the band last week, and it's a banger. It's a great introduction to the group's music, in case you are not already familiar with it. If you're not famiiar with them, I would highly suggest checking them out at one of their Bangor performances.

The Box Tiger is an indie rock band from the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario and sometimes Maine. They were founded in later 2009 by singer/songwriter and guitarist Sonia Sturino. Check out their music here
